The Antonov An-124 Ruslan is a modern, four-engine, heavy transport aircraft of Soviet (Ukrainian) production in the high wing configuration of all metal construction. The drive is provided by four Latvia D-18T two-flow engines. The prototype flight took place in 1982. Serial production was carried out in the years 1982-2004 or 1984-2004. In its course, 55 aircraft of this type were created. The unit cost of such a machine is estimated at USD 70-100 million. 2009 prices.

An-124 Ruslan was developed in the Antonov design bureau, and work on it began in the early 1970s. Their goal was to create a heavy transport aircraft capable of transporting even the heaviest loads over distances of more than 15,000 kilometers. Initially, it was developed for the needs of the armed forces of the USSR, and after its disintegration - it was also used as a civilian transport plane. At the time of the flight and public presentation, the An-124 was by far the largest plane in the world with a length of 69 meters and a wingspan of 73.3 meters! It is also able to carry a load of up to 120 tons over a distance of 16,090 kilometers. It is likely that the serial production of these huge aircraft, despite the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, will be resumed for the needs of the armed forces of the Russian Federation.
