BA-I is a Soviet armored car from the interwar period and World War II. The vehicle was powered by a single carburettor engine with a power of 40 HP . The first prototypes of the vehicle were made in 1932, and serial production started a year later. In its course, at least 80 vehicles of this type were created. The vehicle was armed with a single 37mm gun and two 7.62 mm DT machine guns
BA-I was developed at the Izhora Plant on the basis of the chassis of the licensed Ford-Timken truck. The vehicle used many components of the car, and the turret was taken over from the BA-27. The new armored car had 3 to 8 mm thick armor, as well as relatively strong armament, but it was powered by a relatively low-power engine, which negatively affected its off-road capability. There are many indications that the serial production of the BA-I was terminated as early as 1934 due to the introduction of the BA-3 armored car to the Red Army, i.e. a vehicle of the same class as the BA-I. From June 1940, vehicles of this type were withdrawn from service and placed in reserve as obsolete vehicles.
