The Bell 412 is a modern American medium multi-role helicopter. A prototype flight took place in 1979, and the machine entered production in the same year. Over 850 helicopters of this type were built in its course. The propulsion, in the Bell 412 EP version, is provided by a single Pratt and Whitney Canada PT6T-3D engine with a power of up to 1,250 HP. The maximum take-off weight is around 5,400 kilograms. The Bell 412 helicopter is a development of the very successful Bell 212 helicopter. The main changes between the two machines are the use of different propulsion units, the use of a four-bladed main rotor and richer avionics in the Bell 412. During serial production, many development versions of this helicopter were created, including: Bell 412EPI (version with the so-called glass cockpit and advanced avionics), Bell Griffin HT1 (training helicopter for the British RAF), Bell Griffin HAT2 (search and rescue version for the RAF), Agusta-Bell AB 412 (civil license version produced in Italy) or AB 412 Grifone (military version produced in Italy). It is worth adding that the Bell CH-146 Griffon was also created on the basis of the Bell 412EP machine.
