A-Model 07219 Borovkov and Florov I-207 Soviet Plane

The Borowkow-Florow I-207 was an experimental Soviet fighter in the interwar period in a non-supporting biplane arrangement. The prototype's flight took place in 1937, but the machine never entered mass production. The drive was provided - in the I-207 version - by a single Szwiecow M-62 engine with a capacity of 900 HP. The maximum speed did not exceed 440 km / h. The deck armament consisted of four 7.62 mm SzKAS machine guns.

Borowkow-Florow I-207 was initially planned as a new, light, biplane fighter with, above all, considerable maneuverability. The first tests - despite the crash of one of the prototypes - showed good stability of the aircraft and its easy piloting, with a relatively low maximum speed and poor flight range. However, in connection with the purges carried out in the 1930s in the USSR, work on the new aircraft significantly slowed down, and the designers faced growing organizational problems. In 1939, it was planned to abandon work on the new aircraft, but the experiences of the Winter War (1939-1940) with Finland pushed the I-207 in a new direction - a light bomber, and in fact a dive bomber. However, the designers did not manage to eliminate the main disadvantages of the I-207 - especially the poor range - and the entire project was eventually canceled in 1940.
