Charles IV of the Luxembourg dynasty was born in 1316 and died on November 29, 1378. He was the king of Germany (in the years 1347-1378) and the emperor of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation in the years 1355-1378, and above all - the king of Bohemia in the years 1346-1378. The future emperor was brought up at the court of Charles IV the Beautiful of France, and his guardian was Piotr Roger - the future Pope Clement VI. From 1334, he was the margrave of Moravia and received from his father, John of Luxemburg, the administration of the Kingdom of Bohemia. During his long reign, Charles IV became famous in Bohemia as an outstanding organizer and an outstanding administrator of the monarchy, who contributed significantly to the fantastic - for the conditions of the Middle Ages - the expansion of Prague. He was the founder of the Charles Bridge, Prague University and Karlstejn Castle. He also strongly supported the development of cities in the Czech Republic and granted city rights to numerous centers. In the Reich, he was forced to issue the Golden Bull, announced in 1356, which, although very strictly regulated the election of the new king of Germany, also led to the marginalization of the emperor's political position in Germany. It is commonly believed that Charles IV was an outstanding diplomat, skillfully leading dynastic policy, but also a politician who contributed to the great economic and cultural development of the Czech Republic. A figure comparable to his talents and merits for his country with Casimir the Great of the Piast dynasty.
