Heller 80720 Delage D8 SS

The Delage D8 is a French luxury passenger car that was first presented to the public in 1929. Its serial production started in the same year and continued until 1940. The car was powered by a single 4-liter 8-cylinder engine ranging from 102 to 120 HP. The wheelbase of this car was 3.31 meters. The D8 model was developed and put into production by Delage to replace the GLS and - to a lesser extent - DM models in the commercial offer. Compared to both of these models, it had a completely new power unit, and above all it had a completely different, much more avant-garde, body and passenger cabin styling. Despite the presentation of the D8 in the year of the Great Depression (1929), its production and sales did not slow down dramatically despite the macroeconomic turmoil. Moreover, in the 1930s, the design was developed and various versions of the Delage D8 appeared, for example: D8-15, D8-50 or D8 SS. The latter was characterized by a shortened wheelbase and improved traction properties. The production of the car and its development were interrupted by the German occupation that began in 1940.
