The Douglas M-2 was an American mail plane from the interwar period. The machine was built in a biplane system and had a classic - fixed undercarriage. The flight of the prototype took place in 1925, and serial production started a year later (1926). The drive was provided by a single Liberty V-12 engine with 420 hp. The machine did not have on-board weapons.

In 1918, the American Post Office ( United States Post Office) decided to replace the previously used de Havilland DH.4 postal planes with more modern ones, and they commissioned Douglas to develop them. In order to shorten the research and development time, the manufacturer decided to use the Douglas O-2 observation aircraft for the production of the new machine. After appropriate modifications, the DAM-1 aircraft was created, which was quickly renamed the M-1. Based on this plane, the M-2 machine was created by Western Air Express (Western Airlines). The M1 and M2 planes differed slightly from each other, mainly in the engine cooling system and the possibility for the M-2 model to take a passenger to the pilot's cabin.
