GPM 0371 FIAT FURGON 508/III

Polish Fiat 508, the so-called The rover is a Polish military off-road vehicle from the interwar period and World War II. The vehicle was powered by a single 24 HP PZInż 117 carburetor engine. The first prototypes of the vehicle were built in 1935, and serial production was carried out in 1936-1939. Approximately 1,500 cars of this type were created in its course.

Due to the slow process of motorization of the Polish Army in the 1930s, it was decided to develop a new, light, off-road vehicle for its needs. The design and future construction of the vehicle was entrusted to Państwowe Zakłady Inżynieryjny (PZInż). In order to shorten the research and development work, it was based on the civilian car Polski Fiat 508 Junak, which was in turn licensed - with modifications - the Fiat 508 Balilla car. Compared to the civilian version, an open version of the body was used, which could be covered with a tarpaulin, the structure was also strengthened - especially the suspension - while retaining the wooden elements. In some examples, the machine gun wz. 28. Specialized versions also appeared in a limited number - mainly ambulances and a pick-up body version. Polish Fiat 508 cars took part in the September campaign in 1939.
