AML 72024 Göppingen Gö 9

The Göppingen Gö 9 was a German experimental aircraft from the Second World War. The prototype flight took place in 1941. This aircraft had a dorsal wing configuration. It was 6.8 meters long with a wingspan of 7.2 meters. The drive was provided by a single Hirt HM-60 engine with 80 HP. The maximum speed was around 220 km / h. The plane did not have on-board weapons.

The Göppingen Gö 9 was designed by Ulrich Hütter, and Schempp-Hirth Flugzeugbau was responsible for its production. The machine was developed primarily in order to test the behavior of a machine with the most streamlined hull as possible, using a push propeller rather than a pull propeller. The machine was created as a smaller version of the Dornier Do-17 plane, but with a completely different positioned power unit. A large part of the structure was also made of wood. The machine also featured a three-support undercarriage with a front wheel, which was rather rare at that time. It is assumed that the conclusions from the tests and research on the Göppingen Gö 9 were used in the construction of the Dornier Do-335 fighter.
