Giuseppe Garibaldi was an Italian light cruiser from the Second World War and the post-war period. The keel was laid under this vessel in 1933, the launch took place in April 1936, and in 1937 - the ship was commissioned. Its length at the time of launching was 188.7 meters and a width of 19.9 meters. Full displacement reached approx. 11,400 tons, and maximum speed - approx. 34 knots. The armament included: 10 152 mm guns, 8 100 mm AA guns and 6 533 mm torpedo tubes.

Giuseppe Garibaldi was one of the two ships belonging to the Duca degli Abruzzi class (according to other classifications - to the Condottieri class). The cruiser Giuseppe Garibaldi had reinforced armor and artillery armament compared to previous Italian light cruisers. It was true that it was done at the expense of the maximum speed, but it was still very high and oscillated around 34 knots. At the same time, the ship had good stability and high seaworthiness. It is widely recognized as the most successful Italian light cruiser of the Second World War. The unit also took an active part in it, e.g. in the Battle of Cape Stilo in 1940 and in the Battle of Cape Matapan (1941). After the capitulation of Italy in 1943, the unit was taken over by the Allies and directed to operations in the Atlantic Ocean. After the war, however, Giuseppe Garibaldi returned to the Italian flag. In the period 1945-1946, the cruiser underwent a slight modernization, and in the years 1957-1962 it underwent a thorough reconstruction to transform it into a missile cruiser. The unit remained in line until 1971.
