Hobby Boss 87018 JMSDF HARUSHIO I-400 Class Submarine

Harushio is the name of a class of Japanese diesel-electric fighter submarines (SS). The first unit of this type entered service in 1990. A total of 7 units of this type were built, all of which are currently in reserve. The Harushio-class ship is 77 m long (SS-589 - 87 m), 10 m wide, and has a displacement of approximately 2,800 to approximately 3,200 tons. The maximum underwater speed is approximately 20 knots. The ships of this type are equipped with six 533 mm torpedo tubes.

The Harushio-class ships were developed and put into production in order to replace the Yushio-class ships in the line. Compared to their predecessors, they had more modern electronic and hydroacoustic equipment, and above all they had more careful soundproofing - especially of the gym compartment. They were also constructed of a different material - NS110 high-strength steel, which allowed them to achieve a greater immersion depth. One of the ships of this type Asashio (SS-589) was withdrawn from active service in 2000 in order to test new solutions with anechoic shell plates and propulsion based on Stirling engines. Ships of this class have been replaced in line by ships of the Oyashio class.
