Hollandia is a container ship that was built in the Polish Gdañsk Shipyard, and the launch of the vessel took place in 1977. At the time of launching, the total length was 204 m, with a width of approx. 31 m and a draft of 10 m. The drive was provided by engines manufactured at Zak³ady Cegielskiego in Poznañ with a total power of 29,000 KM, which allowed to achieve a maximum speed of 22 knots. The swimming range was up to 14,500 nautical miles. The crew of this large ship consisted of 33-37 people. The Hollandia, along with eight other twin ships, belonged to the Type 463B. It was the first type of container ships in the history of the Polish shipbuilding industry, produced for export, and more specifically to the order of the Caribbean Overseas Line shipping company, which in the 1970s aimed at launching a regular sea connection between the ports of the Caribbean basin and Western Europe. As a curiosity, it can be added that the second ship of this type (called Astronomer) was adapted by the Royal Navy to act as an auxiliary ship, but despite this, it was not used in the Falklands War (1982). It is also worth adding that the presented container ship, called Hollandia, frequently changed hands, but remained in service until 2002. Only this year was it sold for scrap.
