From the end of the 14th century to the end of the 19th century, the Joseon state functioned on the territory of the Korean Peninsula, also known as Korea of the Joseon or Chosun dynasty. The predecessor of the Joseon state was the state of Goryeo (it existed from the 10th to the end of the 14th century). The Joseon state waged numerous armed conflicts with its neighbors, primarily with imperial China and Japan. At the same time, it tried to pursue a highly isolationist foreign policy. Probably the two biggest conflicts waged by Joseon in the 15th-17th centuries were the war with Japan in 1592-1598 and the struggle with the invasion of the nomadic Jurdzhens in the first half of the 17th century. The Korean army of the 15th and 17th centuries was based primarily on foot soldiers armed with bows, spears and probably single-edged swords. These swords were made very carefully, of high-quality steel, and their total length ranged from 50 to even about 80 centimeters. A specific type of sword used in Korea at that time was saingeom, the blade of which was about 90 centimeters. Korean army of the 15th-17th centuries it relied heavily on the peasant "recruit". It is worth adding that especially in the course of the struggle with the Japanese invasion on a large scale, native linen armor called eomshimgap. On the other hand, metal armor, mainly lamellar armor, was used on a rather smaller scale. Armor, which could be classified as brigantines, was quite popular.
