The basic, non-military, police formation in the Third Reich was the Ordnugspolizei (Orpo in short), which was formed in 1936 and functioned until 1945. In 1944, there were over 400,000 in its ranks. officers. The Ordnugspolizei itself was divided into several individual divisions, and what was very interesting among them was also the fire brigade (German Feuerschutzpolizei), which was subordinated to the Ordnugspolizei in 1938. It is worth adding that previously the German civil fire service was subject to the jurisdiction of individual cities in which it operated. Interestingly, however, the cities were still supposed to provide the guards with appropriate equipment and salaries for firefighters. This organizational change also resulted in a color change - until now, the fire trucks were red and the fireman's uniforms were blue. From 1938, fire trucks began to be painted green and the new fire uniforms were painted this color. In 1941, Feuerschutzpolizei consisted of 86 units located in Germany, Austria and the General Government. In the years 1939-1943, a total of 6 firefighting regiments were established within the Feuerschutzpolizei, which in 1943 were transformed into independent battalions. The tasks of both regiments and battalions were the same - ensuring fire safety in the occupied territories and in the immediate vicinity of the German army.
