Bronco CB35188 Loyd Carrier Mk.I/II (Tracked. Towing 6-pdr Anti-Tank Gun Tractor)

The Loyd Carrier was a British light tracked vehicle from the Second World War. The first prototypes were built in 1939, and serial production continued in 1940-1945. In total, approximately 26,500 copies of this vehicle were built. Loyd Carrier was engine driven Ford UK-79E-6004 or Ford EGAE with power - respectively - 65 or 85 HP. The vehicle did not have any permanent weapons.

Loyd Carrier was established as a private initiative of Vivian Loyd, an engineer for the armaments concern Vickers, who left it in the 1930s. Vivian Loyd developed a cheap to produce, light and multi-purpose tracked tractor (just Loyd Carrier), which attracted the interest of British Army high officers. When designing the new tractor, emphasis was placed on reducing the cost of mass production as much as possible and simplifying it. This resulted in the use of a Ford truck frame with a load capacity of 2 tons and many components from the Universal Carrier. Four basic varieties of Loyd Carrier were produced in series production. The first was designed to transport people and light equipment - it was designated as Tracked Personnel Carrier (TPC). The second - designated Carrier Tracked Towing (CTT) - was a classic artillery tractor dedicated to 40 and 57 mm guns. It was also the version produced in the greatest number. The third version - Carrier Tracked Cable Layer Mechanical (CTCLM) - was intended for laying telephone cables. Finally, the last one - Carrier Tracked Starting and Charging (CTSC) - was a version of technical support for mechanized and armored units. Vehicles of this type were also used by the Polish Armed Forces in the West (PES). After the end of World War II, they were used by many countries, including Belgium, the Netherlands and Canada.
