The Mü17 Merle was a German, single-seat, high-performance, high-wing glider from the interwar period and World War II. The glider was developed at the Akaflieg München plant. The prototype flight took place in 1938. Until the outbreak of World War II, only two prototypes were probably built. . The curb weight was 158 kilograms.
The Mü17 Merle was developed for the gliding competition that was to be held during the 1940 Olympic Games in Helsinki. The glider had a relatively simple structure, but was also easy to fly and had a relatively durable structure. After World War II, Mü17 successfully competed in numerous gliding competitions and set several gliding world records. It is worth adding that based on the Mü17, it was planned to create a glider with a larger wingspan (designation Mü19), but these plans were not implemented.
