Planet Models 196 Messerschmitt M-20 b-2

The BFW M.20 (another name: Messerschmitt M-20) was a German passenger and transport aircraft from the interwar period and World War II in the high-wing fixed landing gear configuration. The drive - in the M.20b-2 version - was provided by a single BMW VIu engine with a maximum power of 640 HP. The prototype flight took place in 1928. The machine entered mass production in 1929, and about 15 examples of this aircraft were produced in its course.

The BFW M.20 was developed at the German aviation manufacturer Bayerische Flugzeugwerke by the later famous aviation constructor - Wilhelm (Willie) Messerschmitt. The new machine was largely based on another BFW aircraft - the M.18d. Compared to its predecessor, the BFW M.20 had a more powerful engine, reinforced structure and was enlarged to carry 10 passengers instead of 8. During serial production, three main versions of this aircraft were created: M.20 (basic production version), M .20b (with increased passenger compartment), M.20b-2 (version M.20b powered by BMW VIu engine). The main user of this type of aircraft was the German airline Lufthansa. A single copy was operated in Brazil until 1948.
