The Minnesota Point Lighthouse is a historic structure, the ruins of which are now located in the United States, on the border between the states of Minnesota and Wisconsin in the city of Duluth, on the edge of Upper Lake. The construction of the lighthouse was approved in 1853 and work was completed in 1857 or 1858. Originally, the lighthouse was 15 meters high and was a structure made of red brick, covered with white plaster, in the shape of a simple tower. The building was topped with a wooden structure on which a lantern light and a roof were installed. The foundation was made of stone. It was the first structure of this type built in the history of Minnesota. The lighthouse was active until 1913. Over the next several dozen, it was neglected and deteriorated, falling into ruin. It was only in 1974 that these historic ruins were entered into the National Register of Historic Places.
