The castle in Niedzica (Latin: Castrum de Dunajecz) is located in the province of Lesser Poland, on the right bank of the Czorsztyn Reservoir in the village of Niedzica-Zamek. The stronghold was most likely erected at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries, and the first references appear in 1325, as the property of members of the Berzevicz family. In the late Middle Ages, the castle guarded the Hungarian-Polish border, belonging to the Hungarian monarchy. At the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries, the castle became the property of the Zapolya family. Approx. In 1530, the Polish £aski family came into its possession and it remained in its hands until around 1600. Later, the castle began to lose its military significance, becoming primarily a residential building. It played such a role mainly in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The building found its way to Poland after 1918. Fortunately, it survived World War II, although not free from damage and partial destruction. From 1948, renovation and conservation works were carried out in the castle. At present, the castle in Niedzica serves as a museum and hotel.
