SMS Graudenz was a German light cruiser of the First World War. The keel for this unit was laid in 1912, the launch took place in October 1913, and entry into service in Kaiserliche Marine - in 1914. The length of the ship was 142.7 meters and a width of 13.8 meters. Full displacement reached about 6,400 tons, and maximum speed - to about 27-28 knots. The deck armament at the time of launching consisted of 12 105 mm guns and 2 torpedo tubes. SMS Graudenz was the lead ship of the class of cruisers of the same name. Structurally, this type of unit was very similar to that of the Magdeburg class. However, they differed from them mainly in the architecture of the engine room, a slightly longer range of operation and slightly improved performance. SMS Graudenz was built at the Kiel shipyard. The unit took an intensive part in the course of operations in the First World War. She fought, inter alia, in the Battle of Dogger Bank in 1915 and - in the same year - in the Battle of the Bay of Riga. Due to the damage to the SMS, Graudenz did not take part in the Battle of Jutland. The unit happily survived until the end of the war, and in 1920 it was taken over by the Italian fleet, where it served under the name Ancona until 1937.
