Jahre Viking (other names: Knock Newis, Seawise Giant and Happy Giant) was a tanker built in a Japanese shipyard owned by Sumitomo in the city of Yokosuka. The vessel was built in 1979-1981. The total length of the ship was 458.45 meters and a width of 68.8 meters. Full displacement was around 564,800 tons, and the maximum speed was up to 16 knots. The Jahre Viking was the largest in terms of displacement in history. It was classified as a super-tanker and held nearly 4.1 million barrels of crude oil! Shortly after entering service in 1986, it was hit by an Exocet rocket in the Persian Gulf during the Iran-Iraq War, but despite the damage it did not sink and was successfully restored to full working order. During its service, it belonged to several owners, including Loki Stream and Olsen Tankers. In 2009, the ship was decommissioned.
