Wagons of type 81 are subway cars of initially Soviet production, and now Russian, which have been produced since 1976 by plants in Moscow and St. Petersburg. A typical rolling stock consisting of these wagons consists of six units - its service weight is 200 tons, the number of seats is 256, and a set of six wagons can accommodate a total of 1,128 people. The overall length is 115.3 meters, and the design speed is 90 km / h. The type 81 wagons were created to replace the Je subway carriages developed in the 1960s. In the new type of carriages, the emphasis was primarily on higher operational speed, greater passenger capacity and the adaptation of the carriages to take as many passengers as possible. The first prototypes were made of aluminum, but steel was quickly used in their construction. Wagons of this type were and still are, due to subsequent modernizations, used in cities such as Moscow, Kazan or Yekaterinburg. However, outside of Russia in, among others: Warsaw, Kiev or Prague.
