North Cormorant is a modern drilling platform located in the North Sea in the Cormorant oil field, which is approximately 160 kilometers northeast of the Shetland Islands. Since 2008, the field, along with the presented platform, has been owned by the Abu Dhabi National Energy Company - TAQA for short. The North Cormorant platform was built in the early 1980s and the distance to the seabed from the platform surface is over 160 meters. The platform is built on eight steel supports anchored to the seabed. On these supports, the so-called the shell, and on it, in turn, a structure called Module Support Frame (MSF) is based, which in fact is the starting point for the installation of the remaining "modules" of the drilling platform. The North Cormorant platform is designed not only to extract crude oil and natural gas, but also to pre-process and pump them.
