PWS-5 was a Polish accompanying plane with a wooden structure, in a biplane system, with a fixed landing gear. The drive was provided by a single engine Wright Whirlwind J5B with a power of 220 hp. The flight of the prototype took place in 1928, and in the years 1928-1929 serial production continued, ending with the production of 5-7 aircraft. The armament was one 7.7 mm Lewis machine gun.
The PWS-5 plane, initially designated as PWS-7, was created as a private initiative of the Podlasie Aircraft Factory. The aim was to create an aircraft that is relatively cheap to produce and operate, but with good flight parameters and piloting properties. Despite quite intensive work on the two prototypes, machines with poor performance, low maneuverability and low strength of the overall structure were created. Despite these shortcomings, the Polish armed forces decided to purchase a small number of these machines, marking them as PWS-5t2. The planes, however, were quickly withdrawn from the line and assigned to training tasks.
