Panzertriebwagen PT-16 is a German heavy armored motor car from the Second World War. A single copy of it was made in 1942 in Berlin by the company Berliner Maschinenbau AG. The propulsion was provided by a single 550hp diesel engine, and the armament initially consisted of two 20mm cannons, and later - two captured Soviet 76.2mm cannons.
The genesis of the uprising The Panzertriebwagen PT-16 dates back to the end of 1940, when the German armed forces began considering the modernization of their armored trains, which until then had been treated as secondary or even tertiary weapons. The effect of the studies from 1940-1941 was, among others, the Panzertriebwagen PT-16. It was constructed on the basis of a diesel locomotive of the type WR 550 D14, which in its traditional role was used to pull armored trains. The locomotive was covered with armor plates and two artillery positions in rotating turrets were installed at its ends. The Panzertriebwagen PT-16 served throughout its entire service on the Eastern Front, and after 1945 it fell into Polish hands as a war trophy. The wagon, creating a key element of the armored train, served in the Bieszczady Mountains in the years 1946-1947. The unit in which he served was formally dissolved in 1950. Currently, the wagon is on display at the Railway Museum in Warsaw.
