The 1K17 Szhatie is a self-propelled laser vehicle of Russian origin. The platform uses a MSTA-S chassis with a battery of laser projectors mounted in the turret. It was developed by the Soviet Union in order to disable the optical-electronic equipment of enemy missiles, ground and aerial vehicles.
The "tank" used an intense laser beam to disable the optical-electronic equipment of the enemy vehicles. This was created by focusing light through 30 kg of artificial rubies which made the whole system very expensive to produce. The energy to power the laser was provided by a generator and an auxiliary battery system. The lenses themselves were able to operate in different environments by moving metal caps closer to protect the lens. It was also equipped with a 12.7mm NSV machine gun to defend itself against attacks by infantry and air.

The 1K17 S¿atije was an experimental Soviet self-propelled laser set from the Cold War period. It is known about one built prototype of this weapon, which was created in the early 90s of the twentieth century. The 1K17 Zhatiye was probably powered by a single 840hp V-84A engine. The secondary armament of the vehicle was a single 12.7 mm NSV machine gun.
The 1K17 S¿atije prototype was the culmination of works on the creation of a mobile laser weapon that would be used by the Soviet Army, which had been carried out since the early 1970s. On the battlefield, the main task of this atypical vehicle would be to damage, destroy or disrupt the optoelectronic means of targeting and targeting the enemy. It is assumed that the main weapon of the vehicle, the laser beam ("laser cannon"), was based on synthetic gemstones illuminated by lamps - but this is only a hypothesis. Despite the successful completion of factory and field trials in 1990-1992, the 1K17 Shhatiye was not put into mass production due to budget problems caused by the collapse of the USSR. The only surviving specimen is on display in the museum in Ivanovskoye.
