Newag 311D (another designation: ST40 series) is a series of heavy diesel locomotives, the production of which started in 2007 at the Newag plant in Nowy S±cz. The length of the locomotive with buffers is 17.55 meters, and the width - 2.95 meters. The wheel diameter is 1040 mm with the Co'Co axle arrangement. The Newag 311D locomotive (commonly known as "Robogagarienm" or "Batman") was created as a result of a far-reaching modernization of the Soviet M62 (ST44) locomotives. The changes mainly affected the drive, which is now a General Electric engine with a rated power of 2,900 KM, which is located in one housing with a generator, compressor and fan. The external appearance of the box was also significantly changed and modernized. The locomotive was equipped with rich electronics. The locomotives owned by PKP Cargo are particularly successful in this regard. The comfort of the drivers' work has also been significantly improved. The main users of this type of locomotive are PKP Cargo and PKP LHS.
