The Sopot Lighthouse is a historic Polish lighthouse, currently serving as a navigation point, located in the city of Sopot (Pomeranian Voivodeship) at pl. Zdrojowy. In 1903, a balneological facility was established in Sopot (a form of a health resort, with a special emphasis on rehabilitation and hydrotherapy), with a very high tower, approx. 30 meters high, which served as a chimney for the local boiler house, but also - interestingly - as a vantage point. The spa building, together with the tower, survived the two world wars with damage, and in 1976 it was thoroughly modernized. First of all, new furnaces were introduced that did not require such a high chimney. Thus, in 1977 it was decided to place on the tower the source of the world, then with a range of 17 nautical miles (NM), making it a lighthouse. However, in 1999, a decision was made to reduce the light range to 7 nautical miles (NM), and thus the object formally ceased to be classified as Polish lighthouses, but still - as is customary - it bears such a name.
