Aoshima 01065 Submarine I-175

The I-75 (later I-175) was a Japanese submarine whose keel was laid in 1934, launched in September 1937, and commissioned in the Imperial Japanese Navy in 1938. At the time of launching, the ship was 105 m long, 8.2 m wide, and had a displacement of 2,600 tons. The maximum surface speed of the I-75 was 23 knots on the surface. The main armament was six 533mm torpedo launchers, and the secondary armament was a single 120mm cannon and two 13.2mm anti-aircraft machine guns.

The I-75 was a Kaidai-class submarine (sub-type: KD6B), which in turn was based on the experiences and solutions of the KD6A sub-type of the same class. Both sub-types were almost identical, but the KD6B sub-type was about 30 cm longer, 25 tons heavier and had marginally changed secondary armament. At the outbreak of World War II in the Pacific, I-75 took part in the attack on the American base at Pearl Harbor, and in 1941 sank the American merchant ship "Manini". In the summer of 1942 he operated successfully off the eastern shores of Australia against Allied merchant shipping. In the same year, the ship's designation was changed - from I-75 to I-175. In November 1943, the I-175 achieved its greatest success, drowning the US escort carrier USS Liscome Bay. However, the ship was sunk shortly after - in February 1944 - in the Battle of Kwajalein as a result of a depth charge attack by the destroyers USS Charrette and USS Fair.
