The Sydney Opera House is an Australian opera house in the city of Sydney, New South Wales, whose construction started in 1959 and was completed in 1973 - so it took 14 years. The main architect of this building was Jorn Oberg Utzon and Ove Arup. The genesis of the building dates back to the end of the 1940s, when the Australian government decided to erect a completely representative building of the national opera house. Finally, its location was chosen Bennelong Point Cape, which allowed the new building to be turned into the main architectural dominant of the space. The competition for the architectural design was settled in 1957, but its construction started only two years later. Initially, the completion of works was planned in 1965, but due to considerable technical and architectural problems, this deadline was postponed by as much as eight years! Ultimately, however, an unusual, avant-garde structure was created (due to the unusual shells of the vault), considered one of the flagship examples of modern expressionism in architecture. It also quickly became Sydney's most recognizable building. In 2007 The Sydney Opera House is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
