Trumpeter 04529 THE PLA Navy Type 051C DDG-115 Shenyang

The Type 051C is the name for the class of modern Chinese missile destroyers. Units of this type entered service in the PRC Navy in 2006-2007. In total, only two units of this type were built. The 051C class ships are 155 meters long and 17 meters wide. The displacement is around 7,100 tons, and the top speed is probably just over 30 knots. The destroyer is armed with: six SA-N-20 8-rail rocket launchers, eight single YJ-83 rocket launchers, a single 100 mm cannon, and two 30 mm Type 730 CIWS sets. The ship can operate with one on-board helicopter, e.g. Ka-28, but does not have a hangar for its homing.

The 051C-class destroyers were primarily designed to provide long-range air defense for the fleet's own teams. In order to reduce the costs of research and development, but also to accelerate production, the new destroyers were based on the hull of the 051B units (another term: Luhai class), but received more modern electronic equipment and new SA-N-20 anti-aircraft missiles (S-300FM ). Both units of this class were built at the shipyard in Dalian city. A very short series may suggest that the 051C class was treated as a transitional solution, as its production was stopped in favor of the 052C (Luyang II class).
