Taipei 101 (official name: Taipei World Financial Center) is a 509.2 meter high skyscraper located in the capital of the Republic of China in Taiwan - Taipei. The building was designed by CY Lee and Partners, and construction began in 1999. Two companies were primarily responsible for its implementation: KTRT and Samsung Engineering and Construction. The skyscraper was commissioned in 2004 and for the next six years it held the title of the tallest building in the world. The building has as many as 5 underground and 101 above-ground storeys. It has also been equipped with security measures to minimize the effects of earthquakes and hurricanes. The style in which Taipei 101 was erected is described as postmodern, but using traditional Asian architectural patterns. In its construction, many technological innovations and advanced technical solutions were used to increase the strength of the building, but also to facilitate its functioning.
