Pafawag 3W is an open type wagon, often colloquially called a coal wagon, intended - as the name suggests - for the transport of coal. The wagons were produced in the period 1946-1950 by, among others, the Pafawag plant in Wrocław. The unladen weight of a single wagon was 9.6 tons, and the maximum load capacity was up to 23 tons. The total length of the wagon is 9.3 m. The maximum speed of the wagon - both loaded and empty - is 80 km / h. In total (together with the 4W and 11W versions), about 69,000 copies of this wagon were built.

The Pafawag 3W wagon was designed in 1945, almost immediately after the end of World War II. The Pafawag 3W retained the overall dimensions of the CIIA wagon, but was 20 cm longer and had a welded structure. The wheelbase has also increased (by 50 cm) and the payload has been increased. The 3W wagons were simple in construction with a chassis made of steel, but walls and floors made of wood. Due to production shortages, many cars had an insufficiently developed brake system. In 1954, the 11W version appeared, very similar to the 3W version, with different bumpers or the braking system, produced both for domestic use and for export.
