RS Models 92039 Zlin Z-XII open canopy

The Zlin Z-XII was a Czechoslovakian sports and tourist plane with a fixed landing gear in the low wing configuration from the interwar period. The drive was provided - in the basic version - by a single Zlin Persy II engine with a capacity of 63 HP. The prototype flight took place in 1935. Serial production started shortly after, leading to the creation of about 200-260 aircraft of this type.

The Zlin Z-XII was designed by Jarosław Lonek for the Zlin aviation plant as a possibly cheap sports machine in production and operation. The plane, thanks to the relatively simple design, turned out to be a considerable commercial success of the Zlin company and was exported to many foreign recipients, including Egypt, France, Japan and the USA. Versions with an open and a closed pilot's cabin were produced. An improved version was also created, marked Z-212, powered by a Walter Mikron engine. During World War II, the Zlin Z-XII planes were used to a small extent by the German and Slovak air forces
