IBG 72047 40M Turan I - Hugarian Medium Tank

The 40M Turan I was a Hungarian medium tank from the Second World War. The first prototypes of the vehicle were created in 1940, and serial production continued in the period 1941-1944, ending with the production of about 300 cars. The Turan I tank was powered by a single engine Manfred Weiss-Z 260 hp . It was armed with a single 41M 40mm cannon and 2 machine guns 34/40 AM cal. 8 mm.

The Turan I tank was created on the basis of the Czechoslovak project of the T-21 medium tank, which in turn drew heavily on the design solutions of the LT vz.35. Design work began in 1940, but was accelerated after the first clashes with the Red Army tanks, especially the T-34. Turan I tanks entered the line in 1942, directing them to clashes with the Soviet troops on the Eastern Front. Despite being put into production in 1941, the Turan I tank had insufficient armament to combat Soviet tanks, and its armor - although reaching 50-60 mm - was poorly profiled. The advantages of the tank were relatively good off-road mobility and a rather low failure rate. The Turan II heavy tank was developed based on the solutions of the Turan I tank.
