D5 and D5T cannons are Soviet 85mm tank guns from the Second World War. Chronologically, the first of these two guns was the D5, which was developed from the 85mm mod.1939 52-K anti-aircraft gun and quickly became the primary armament of the SU-85 tank destroyers. Based on the same gun, the D5T gun was also constructed, which in turn became the main gun of the T-34/85. Both cannons fired very similar anti-tank ammunition and used several types of shells. The first was the armor piercing (AP) which, leaving the barrel of the gun, had an initial speed of 792 m / s. Such a missile could penetrate an armor plate with a slope of 90 degrees and a thickness of 125 mm over a distance of 500 meters, a thickness of 107 mm at a distance of 1000 meters and 92 mm at a distance of 1500 meters. Another projectile was the APCBC, Armor Piercing, Capped, with Ballistic Cap. Its initial speed and penetration capabilities were almost the same as that of the AP shell. At short distances, the more effective type of projectile was the APCR (Armor Piercing, Composite Rigid) missile, ie a full-caliber anti-tank missile with a hardened core. In this case, the projectile could cross an armor plate inclined at an angle of 90 degrees with a thickness of 136 mm from 500 meters and 100 mm from 1000 meters.
