The A-39 (another designation: T-26 with the A-43 turret) is a Soviet prototype self-propelled gun from the interwar period. The first prototypes of this vehicle were made in 1932 - but the car never entered mass production. The vehicle was powered by a single, 4-cylinder 90hp engine, and was armed with a single 76mm regiment gun wz.1927 and a DT machine gun.
The genesis of the A-39 dates back to the turn of the 1920s and 1930s, when with the intensive development of armored weapons, the Red Army realized the necessity of having self-propelled artillery. The new weapon was to provide fire support to the advancing own armored units and eliminate enemy anti-tank artillery from combat. The decision to start work on such a weapon was made in 1931. In order to shorten the research and development time, it was decided to use the chassis of the T-26 tank mod.1931, and the new turret was developed by N. Dyrenkov at the Izhora Plant in Leningrad at that time. However, in the course of trials, it turned out that the new tower has many disadvantages. First of all, it has terrible ventilation, probably a very poor view of the battlefield, and is clearly too tight for the crew members. For these reasons, the vehicle in this configuration did not enter serial production.
