USS Detroit (AOE-4) was an American Fast Combat Support Ship from the Cold War period. The keel for this unit was laid in 1966, and the launch took place in June 1969. The total length of the ship at the time of launching was 243 meters and a width of 33 meters. Full displacement reached approx. 57,000 tons, and maximum speed reached approx. 30-31 knots. The armament consisted of: a single NATO Sea Sparrow missile launcher or two 20 mm Vulcan Phalanx CIWS sets. The unit was able to base two on-board helicopters.

USS Detroit (AOE-4) was the lead ship of the class of supply ships consisting of finally four ships. Sacramento-class ships combined the roles of tankers, ammunition carriers and other supplies. The USS Detroit was built at the Puget Sound Navy Yard in Bremerton, Washington. The unit, shortly after entering service with the US Navy in March 1970, was directed to the Atlantic, and later to the Mediterranean Sea, where it operated as part of the 6th United States Fleet. In the period 1976-1977, the unit underwent modernization, technical inspection and overhaul at Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine. The ship took an active part in the First Gulf War in 1990-1991. USS Detroit (AOE-4) was decommissioned in 2005.
