The SS United States was an American passenger ship, a transatlantic liner, from the post-war period. The keel for this unit was laid in 1950, and the launch took place in June 1951. The United States set sail for its first voyage in July 1952. The total length of the vessel at the time of launch was 302 meters and a width of 9.85 meters. Full displacement reached approximately 47,300 tons, and maximum speed - as much as 38 knots. The ship could accommodate up to 1,928 passengers with 900 crew. Its first shipowner was the United States Lines shipping line.

The SS United States was built for civilian use, but with the financial support of the US Navy, as it was assumed that in time of war it would be quickly mobilized and serve as a high-speed military transport ship in the Atlantic. For this reason, the unit received a partially double hull, numerous - for those times - watertight bulkheads and a powerful engine room. What's more, almost all rooms were finished with special non-flammable materials, which greatly facilitated the extinguishing of any fires. First of all, the SS United States was an incredibly fast transatlantic liner, which was proved during the first voyage by winning the Blue Ribbon of the Atlantic. At the same time, it was exclusively finished, and cruises with it in the 1950s were quite popular. From 1969, the vessel began to change owners and owners quite frequently, but was not sold for scrap.
