Siheyuan is a historical type of residence, mostly rural, typical of Chinese architecture, which is certified for the entire area of modern PRC, but turned out to be especially popular in the Beijing area and in the Jinzhong city area in Shanxi Province. Almost always, Siheyuan consisted of a courtyard surrounded on three sides by residential buildings, and on one side with an entrance gate. Often the Siheyuan was geographically oriented, placing (for example) the gate to the south and the main residential pavilion to the north. It is worth remembering that this type of residence was not only used in China as a kind of canon when erecting palaces or residences, but also monasteries, government buildings and public utilities. The presented type of residence was born in ancient China, its dating is uncertain and it became a specific model for Chinese architecture in later centuries. Many buildings of this type have survived to this day.
