The Benz Bz.IV was a German WW1 aircraft engine. His first tests took place in 1916. The engine weighs 370 kilograms with a displacement of 18.82 liters. Its maximum power reached 228 HP. It is estimated that around 6,400 engines of this type were produced during the First World War.
The Benz Bz. IV was a water-cooled 6-cylinder in-line engine. It was created as a far-reaching modification of the Benz Bz engine. III, which was established in 1914. Compared to its predecessor, it differed, above all, in displacement, weight and maximum power, but it used the same general design assumptions - i.e. it was a 6-cylinder in-line engine. Interestingly, the pistons in the cylinders were initially made of steel, but later - to reduce the weight of the engine - aluminum was used. The Benz Bz. IV engine powered numerous German aircraft of that period, such as: AEG C.VI or JI, Albatros C.VII or C.XIV or Junkers JI
