The experience of military operations in Afghanistan (since 2001) made the British Army aware of the need to have relatively light and highly mobile off-road vehicles. Relatively quickly, the choice fell on quads, i.e. small four-wheeled vehicles that perform well in the field with low purchase and operating costs. The British Army purchased Logic SMT172B vehicles specially tailored to its needs for its troops stationed in Afghanistan, along with the appropriate trailers. These vehicles are primarily used to perform tasks related to transport and logistics to sub-units, but are also often used to transport wounded soldiers from the battlefield. It is also important that the operational mobility of these small, but very useful vehicles is very high, as they can be easily transported by air on board Agusta-Westland AW101 Merlin helicopters. It is worth adding that in addition to the Logic SMT172B ruadami, British troops also use larger, 6-wheeled vehicles, the Supacat ATMP.

Operation Herrick is defined as the entirety of British military operations in Afghanistan in the period from 2002 to 2014. It was implemented as a British contribution to ISAF and as military aid for the American Enduring Freedom operation carried out since 2001. Since 2003, there has been a visible increase in the number of British forces involved, which should be associated with the growing tasks facing the British armed forces in Afghanistan. The operation was primarily aimed at carrying out broadly understood anti-terrorist activities, carrying out patrol tasks and supporting the Afghan government in the reconstruction of the country. It is worth adding that the majority of British activities were carried out in southern Afghanistan - in the Helmand province. It is assumed that 454 British soldiers were killed in the course of Operation Herrick.
