The Bramo 323 Fafnir is a German aircraft engine from the interwar period and World War II. Its first successful start was in 1936. The Siemens / Bramo plants, and more specifically the Brandenburgische Motorenwerke (Bramo for short), were primarily responsible for the design and development of the engine, which in 1939 were purchased by BMW AG, which in turn was primarily responsible for the production of these engines. The gate of the 323 Fafnir (or BMW 323A) was 1.42 meters long with a diameter of 1.388 meters. Its capacity was 26.82 liters, and the weight of the "dry" engine of this type did not exceed 550 kilograms. The Bramo 323 Fafnir was a 9-cylinder radial engine capable of generating a maximum power of 1000hp. The presented engine was created as a result of numerous modifications introduced at the Siemens / Bramo plants on another aircraft engine - the British Bristol Jupiter, which was licensed in these plants since 1929. Already in 1930, the production of the Siemens-Halske Sh.22 engine based on the Jupiter engine was introduced, but further development works on it were carried out. First of all, a new turbocharger was added and the fuel injection was also changed. These changes led to the development of the Bramo 323 Fafnir engine. It was mounted on such aircraft as: Arado Ar.196 or Ar.232, Blohm und Voss BV.222, Dornier Do 17 or Junkers Ju-352.
