The Citroen ZX is a French compact car, which was first presented to the public in 1990. Its serial production started in the same year and continued in Europe until 1998. It took place in the cities of Rennes in France, Vigo in Spain and Barra de Carosco in Uruguay. In total, about 1.7 million copies of this car were produced.
The ZX model was designed and put into production to replace the GS model in Citroen's offer and to fill the gap between the AX and BX models. Its main market competitors were VW Golf and Ford Escort. Citroen ZX differed from its predecessor in many respects. First of all, it had a different style, in no way resembling that of the DS model on which the GS was modeled. The car also had a wider range of engines with a displacement of 1.1 to 1.9 liters. Many systems were also improved, and especially all metal elements were protected against rust in a very good way. Citroen ZX was offered in three body styles as a 3- and 5-door hatchback and a 5-door station wagon. A sedan version also appeared in the PRC, but it was offered only in this market. The Citroen ZX has also taken part in car rallies, such as the Paris-Dakar Rally. The ZX model was replaced in the company's offer by the Citroen Xsar.
