Heller 80366 Cougar AS 535 U2

The Eurocopter AS532 Cougar is a modern military multi-role helicopter with a single main rotor and a classic rotor on the tail boom. A prototype flight took place in 1977, and the machine entered production in 1978. In the AS532 B version, the drive is provided by two Turbomeca Makila 1A1 engines with 1,589 hp each. The maximum speed of the helicopter is 249 km / h, and the operating range is 580 kilometers.

The AS532 Cougar helicopter was developed as a development of the AS330 Puma helicopter. Compared to its predecessor, the machine differs, among others: the engines used, it has different dimensions (especially length), a more spacious passenger and transport cabin and a completely redesigned main rotor. In the course of production, several development versions were created, among which the following can be indicated: AS532 UL / AL (extended basic version, capable of carrying more troops), AS532 AC (sea version of the helicopter, designed to fight enemy surface units) or AS535 ( version used for CSAR tasks in the French army). Helicopters from the AS532 Cougar family have been or are operated by the armed forces of countries such as Brazil, France, the Netherlands and Germany.
