The De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter is a modern Canadian light transport and passenger plane. The plane was built in the high-wing configuration, it has a fixed - three-support landing gear. The machine was first tested in 1965. Serial production was carried out in the years 1965-1988 and from 2008 to the present. It led (until 2017) to the creation of about 970 copies of this aircraft. The drive - in the DHC-6 Series 100 version - is provided by two Pratt and Whitney Canada PT6A-20 engines 550 hp each . The machine has no permanent on-board armament.

The De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter was developed as a bottom-up initiative of this aviation manufacturer in order to expand its commercial offer, but above all to replace the DHC-3 model in it. The new plane differs from its predecessor with many different elements. First of all, it became a twin-engine aircraft, it also received new power units, the aerodynamic system of the aircraft was improved and the wing structure was changed. The DHC-6 is also an aircraft with the STOL capability, i.e. shortened take-off and landing - similar to its predecessor. The new plane turned out to be very successful and has a large modernization potential. It is used both as a passenger plane, as well as a light transport and medical evacuation plane.
