The Hispano-Suiza 12Y was a Spanish-French aircraft engine produced for the French Air Force during the interwar period and World War II. His first tests took place in 1932. The engine - version 12Y-45 - weighed 515 kilograms with a displacement of 36.05 liters. Its maximum power reached 922 hp. It was one of the most important engines of French military aviation in the 1930s.

The Hispano-Suiza 12Y was a 12 cylinder V, inline, water cooled engine. Its overall design concept was based on the earlier and smaller Hispano-Suiza 12X engine. Compared to its predecessor, it differed primarily in size and displacement, but also in the mechanical solutions used in pistons, valves and entire cylinders, which were also redesigned. The engine, already in the first versions, also had a turbocharger. In the course of serial production, many development versions of the Hispano-Suiza 12Y engine were created, such as: the 12Ydr model from 1934 with 800 KM, 12Ydrs with 860 KM, or the 12Y-45 with 920 KM. Hispano-Suiza 12Y engines of various versions powered such planes as, for example: Amiot 370, Arsenal VG-33, Dewoitine D.510, D.513 and especially D.520 and Morane-Saulnier MS-406. It is worth adding that the engine of this type was also licensed in the USSR under the designation Klimov M-100.
