M / S Marceli Nowotko is a Polish merchant ship (so-called general cargo), which was built at the Gdańsk Shipyard. The keel was laid in 1955, the launch took place in November of the same year, and the ship was commissioned in 1956. The total length of the vessel was 153.9 meters and a width of 19.4 meters. The load capacity did not exceed 10,300 DWT. The top speed was around 16 knots.
M / S Marceli Nowotko was designed and built for the needs of Polish Ocean Lines. It was also the first unit of the successful B-54 project, according to which the so-called "Ten-thousanders", that is vessels with a load capacity of over 10,000 DWT. At the time of launching, M / S Marceli Nowotko was a relatively modern ship, with a decent maximum speed and at least good seaworthiness. It is quite commonly believed that the ships of the B-54 project were successful and did not differ significantly from other units of their type. Interestingly, M / S Marceli Nowotko was the first Polish ship after 1945 to call at a Japanese port. The unit remained in service until 1980.
