Alstom EMU250 Pendolino was manufactured for the Polish carrier PKP Intercity, which is now their user. The first tender for a high-speed multiple unit was announced by PKP in 1997, but already in 1999 the tender was canceled. It was not until 2008 that the topic was resumed, and the second tender was won by Alstom. In 2011, a contract was signed for EUR 665 million for the supply of 20 EMU250 Pendolino units. The official presentation of the new traction unit in Poland took place in 2013, and since December 2014, the trains have been running on the routes between Polish cities, including on the following lines: Warsaw-Gdynia, Warsaw-Krakow or Warsaw-Katowice.
