Heller 79859 Eagle

USCGC Eagle was a German and is now an American training sailing ship. The keel for the ship was laid in February 1936, and the launch took place in June of the same year. The total length of the ship is 90 meters and 12 meters wide. The displacement of the sailing ship is approximately 1,800 tons. The unit has no on-board armament. The USCGC Eagle was originally designed for the Kriegsmarine and its design was almost identical to that of the Gorch Fock sailing ship. Originally it was also called Horst Wessel. Under this name, the sailing ship sailed under the flag of Nazi Germany in the years 1936-1939, serving as a typical school ship for students and graduates of maritime schools. In 1939, he was withdrawn from service, but in 1942 he was reinstated. It also underwent modernization, which involved the installation of anti-aircraft weapons. The sailing ship also turned into an army transport, and in this role it remained in the line until the end of World War II. In 1945, it was seized by the Americans as part of war repairs and became a training ship for the US Coast Guard. The unit is still in active service.
